It is a classic that has graced homes and offices for over fifty years, yet the Eames Soft Pad Chair still exudes a modern sophistication. Its simple lines and comfortable, supportive cushions have made it a popular choice across the globe.
The chair's origins date back to 1958 when American design couple Charles and Ray Eames used a stretched mesh over an aluminium frame to create a new range of outdoor seating. Just over a decade later they added the plush, upholstered cushions and the Soft Pad Chair we know today was born.
The husband and wife team produced a number of iconic items during their forty year career and were known for experimenting with new techniques and materials. Many of their original products are still in production today through Herman Miller in the US and Vitra here in Europe.
Their timeless design and the high quality materials used in the Soft Pad Chairs mean they come with an astonishing 30 year guarantee against any manufacturing or materials faults.
The Soft Pad range offers a diverse selection of pieces with different back heights and mechanisms. There is even a matching ottoman and chaise to finish off your space.
The EA 217 is perhaps one of the most versatile options with its medium height back on a five star base with arms. Upholstered in top grade leather, the seat moulds to the user's body with what the Eames' called a "sitting pocket".
It is height adjustable with a lockable tilt mechanism allowing the user to find the best ergonomic position for working or most comfortable set up for relaxing.
Normally these chairs would have an eight week delivery time as they are made to order but Wellworking has a limited number of this model in stock which are available for delivery in 2-3 days. With chocolate leather cushions, polished frame and base, this stock version is one of the most versatile colour combinations.
Other colourways are still available if you would like to personalise your own EA 217 chair. We are always happy to offer advice on our products if you need some help deciding which chair is best for you.
